So it's two months till I leave for my YAV year. In the past month, I have linked up with the five other ladies I am living with. This will be the most people I have lived with since I lived at home (I'm one of five kids). Our lease will be signed on the 10th of July; then we will find out who our roommates are. This makes me assume we're in a 3Bed house, two in each bedroom.
The ladies and I have a group chat through Facebook; we use it to talk about our worries for the YAV year and how each of us are approaching the same problem. How many bags can we take? How can we possibly pack for four seasons in two suitcases? How are each of us fundraising? It's nice to know we're not alone in this process.
I also have been in contact with Youth OUTright, the LGBTQ+ community center that I will be working at throughout my YAV year. I'm still unclear what exactly I will do on a day-to-day basis, but I've been told my tutoring experience will come in handy, along with basic computer skills. Youth OUTright works with queer students ages 14-20. There's group sessions, events like Gayla and Prom, and a fun and safe environment for all. When I arrive, the Gayla will be approaching within a week or two, so I'll have to be on my toes.
Things I will/won't miss about Florida:
I will miss the easy access to theme parks, whether Disney or Universal (sorry never been to SeaWorld or Busch Gardens).
I will not miss the heat (I was outside in 90+ degree weather today in jeans and a lab coat. Nearly had a heat stroke)
These pictures are from my last time at Disney for a while. I went with my coworker Annie and had a blast. These are two of my favorite pictures of us (I'm on the left in both pictures)
